While Christians such as Marcion and Tertullian say that people will have the essence of angels in the world to come, Origen thinks differently that everyone who follows Christ will not only resemble angels in the future, but will turn into a body like stars and become completely angels.

Apart from Origen’s idea of turning into an angel in the afterlife, there is also the idea of ”becoming an angel” through moral teachings while on earth. According to Origen, to the extent that people become angels, they also become gods: “Leave aside everything human, it is necessary to be an angel and a god.”

In ancient times, Christians could sometimes call angels “god” in their works such as the Gospel of Judas and Recognitions. A good example is Macarius Magnes, who finds his Hellenic rival right instead of denying that he sees angels and Greek gods as the same.
