Dome of the Rock


The Dome of the Rock Mosque, one of the glories of Umayyad Arab architecture, is unique from previous buildings in that it consists of 3 parts: An external and middle part in the form of an octagon (octagon) and an internal part in a circular shape (rattan), as this overlapping arrangement in the parts of the building is a pure invention attributed to the architects of the Umayyad Caliphate.

Those whose architecture was inspired by their Islamic religious beliefs, such as resurrection, resurrection, and the events of the Night Journey and Mi’raj, where they added architectural features that refer to them; Such as mosaics and murals that sometimes depict a trumpet as a clear sign of resurrection, and at other times depict gardens and jewels as a sign of resurrection and the bliss that follows.

  1. Or the Qur’anic verses and phrases in Kufic script that adorn the interior walls, some of which also mention resurrection and reckoning. The central arrangement around the honoring rock clearly indicates its importance in the Isra and Mi’raj event.
