Arab lineages and tribes documented by Lisan al-Din ibn al-Khatib (1313 AD – 1374 AD) in Andalusia.
- Professor Francisco Vidal said: “Ibn Al-Khatib was proud of the presence of 77 Arab lineages in Granada, which indicates the Arabism and originality of the city of Granada… The Arabism of Banu Nasr shaped the identity, culture and cohesion of Granadian society, as it was a means to challenge the Christian danger and the barbaric danger in Islamic North Africa.
“Andalusian civilization, which was more beautiful and greater than any other, was not based on a Persian or Greek foundation. Indeed, it was more purely Arab than Arab civilizations anywhere else.”
The Arab people of Andalusia remained keen on preserving their Arab lineages even after centuries, and the evidence for this is not limited to what was stated in the books of Andalusian historians. A document dating back to the year 1226 AD was found containing the names of landlords and landowners near Almeria, some of whom mention his lineage to Ghassan, Qais, Ghafiq, Hamdan, Judham, and Al-Ansar.
