Aramaic wise, the Peshitta chooses to write Heb. 4:8 as ישוע בן נון. The בן נון part, son of Nun, seems to be an addition intended to make it very clear who is meant here as “son of Nun” does not appear in the Greek text. Interestingly, they did not see fit to make the same modification by Acts 7:45. It might be enough to say that even in antiquity, someone was concerned enough about possible confusion between the two characters, at least in this one area, that they chose to modify the text.
